Code of Conduct

Introduction

Kings Langley Badminton Club (KLBC) aims to provide a friendly, welcoming and enjoyable environment where members of all abilities can enjoy badminton.

This Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behaviour expected from everyone attending the Club. It is intended to help maintain the positive atmosphere that makes KLBC an enjoyable place to play.

Most of these expectations are simply common courtesy and good sportsmanship.

Respect Others

Members should:

• Treat fellow members, visitors, volunteers and venue staff with courtesy and respect.

• Be welcoming to new players and help them feel part of the Club.

• Respect players of all abilities and experience levels.

• Accept that everyone enjoys badminton for different reasons and at different levels of competitiveness.

Play Fairly

Members should:

• Play safely and with consideration for others at all times.

• Be ready to go on court when selected to play, helping sessions run smoothly and avoiding unnecessary delays for other players.

• Play honestly and fairly — call shots as fairly as you would expect others to do.

• If a disagreement cannot be resolved quickly, replay the point and continue the game.

Support the Club

KLBC is run by volunteers and relies on members helping in small ways.

Members are encouraged to:

• Help put up and take down nets when needed.

• Collect used shuttlecocks at the end of sessions.

• Look after Club equipment and report any damage.

• Offer assistance when practical to help sessions run smoothly.

Many hands make light work, and small contributions from everyone help keep the Club enjoyable for all.

Create a Positive Atmosphere

Members should contribute positively to the atmosphere of the Club.

This includes:

• Encouraging fellow players.

• Being patient with less experienced players.

• Accepting that mistakes are part of the game.

• Being mindful that repeated negativity, criticism or dismissive comments can affect other people's enjoyment of the Club.

Friendly banter is part of club sport, but members should always be aware of how their words and behaviour may be received by others.

Language and Behaviour

Members should:

• Be mindful of the language they use.

• Avoid behaviour that may reasonably be considered intimidating, offensive, abusive or discriminatory.

• Respect personal boundaries and behave appropriately towards others.

Alcohol and Other Substances

Members must not allow alcohol or any other substance to affect their behaviour, judgement or ability to participate safely in Club activities.

Advice and Encouragement

KLBC is a supportive club and members may occasionally offer advice or encouragement, particularly to newer players.

Advice should always be offered constructively and respectfully, recognising that not everyone is looking for coaching or technical instruction.

Photography

Photographs are occasionally taken during Club activities. See the Club Privacy Notice for how we approach photography, including how members can opt out.

Guests and Trial Players

Members wishing to bring a guest should seek agreement from the Club beforehand where possible.

Guests will normally be treated as Trial Players and are expected to follow the same standards of behaviour as Club Members.

Following Club Arrangements

Members are expected to:

• Follow reasonable instructions from those organising Club sessions.

• Respect the court rotation system and other playing arrangements.

• Comply with the Club Constitution, Safeguarding, Welfare and Junior Participation Policy and other Club policies where applicable.

• Maintain any Badminton England membership required to participate in the Club.

Concerns

If a member has concerns about behaviour at the Club, they are encouraged to speak to a Director or the Club Welfare Officer.

Most issues can be resolved through a friendly conversation before they become more significant.
